v3.1

Date: Autumn 1921 (from opening caption). James' comment at 11'41" ties this down more closely to October.

James background: He is out of work, looking for a job. His great-aunt Kate (see Path of Duty and Goodwill to All Men) has died and left him some money. He has spent £375 of this (£14,000 in today's terms) on an Avro 504 ex-WWI aeroplane.

Richard background: It'll take a better man than me to identify all of Richard's badges and medals at 2'. Any takers? However, the sash and medal pinned to it, and one of the medals on his chest (the seven-pointed stars), indicate he is a Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George (CMG). This is an honour given to those having performed a diplomatic service (see Word of Honour).

Lily background: She has been at 165 for "two years last May". Thus, she started in May 1919. This agrees with the date given earlier in On With the Dance.

Goof: Watch behind Rose at 8'28" – the bedroom door is shut but then suddenly open.

Goof: The Washington Naval Conference on the Limitation of Armament didn't start until November 12th 1921, so how is Richard reading about it in the paper in October? (10'47")

Georgina background: She is in America (16'36").

Goof: Richard bashes a glass as he puts down the decanter (18'45").

Frederick background: He can (more or less) play the mouth organ (25'30").

Goof: David Langton: "They know jolly well it takes an hour and a half to f... to drive up here from Brooklands," (I think he was going to say "fly") (26'54").

Goof: If you listen very carefully, you can hear what sounds like a football commentator and crowd on some of the soundtrack (37'17", 37'48", 42'49"). This is presumably bleed through from elsewhere in LWT during the VTR or edit. It is possible these disturbances have been reduced in volume somewhat on the Network DVD releases. Interestingly the same noise exactly is present throughout a large part of an episode of Within These Walls called Coming Home made around the same time at LWT.

Goof?: Hudson is upstairs in his short coat (40'23"). Maybe he has forgotten himself in the heat of the moment, though?

Goof: David Langton: "They flew jo... due south..." (47'44")
