Date / goof: Spring 1923 (from opening caption). However, there is a goof in the dating. The prime minister, Bonar Law, resigned (29'47") on May 20th. However, the wireless announcer (3'13") talks about the forthcoming FA cup final, which was played that year on April 28th. (Additionally, note that the BBC did not broadcast from Savoy Hill (1'49") until May 1st.)

Georgina background: She is in America (still – in Noblesse Oblige, Georgina says she went to America "once", meaning her absence since The Joy Ride has all been one continuous visit. Some of the time, at least, she has been staying with Elizabeth.) (6'15")

Georgina Hale was a familiar face on British TV. Her best-known roles were probably as Jean, estranged wife to Adam Faith's character in Budgie (1971-2). Later she was witch Tabitha Bag in the later days of the popular T-Bag fantasy series for children (1985-92). She won a BAFTA for her part of Alma Mahler in Ken Russell's film Mahler in 1975. She died in 2024.

The tune that Violet puts on the gramophone at 17'39" is the 1922 recording of I'm Just Wild About Harry played by Paul Whiteman and His Orchestra. The tune is taken from the Broadway musical Shuffle Along by Noble Sissle and Eubie Blake of the previous year. Later, Harry S. Truman would use this to publicize his 1948 presidential campaign. James background: Diana and James first fell in love at a dance when James was 13 and still at Eton (public school), though they had known each other since they were little. It is implied that Diana is sterile (22'25").

Goof: Not really a goof as such, but whenever the hall is supposed to be visible through the open door of the study, we see just a black drape instead. This is presumably because the hall set was not erected for this episode.

Goof: Through the study window (which is at the back of the house), we see a view of a street (33'21"). We should be seeing the garden and mews.

Goof: Diana says she saw James with the women in the club (43'16"). However, she noticed James after he had already shooed the woman away (5'36").
