v3.0

Date: November 1907 (from opening caption).

Goof: Mrs Bridges' problems in this episode have often been attributed to her going through "the change of life". Certainly, this was Alfred Shaughnessy's (the writer's) take on the episode. This is clearly ludicrous, though, as Angela Baddeley was 66 when this story was made – about 20 years too late!

Goof: Jean Marsh is late in being cued after the opening captions have faded (0'25").

Rooms: The light switches in both the morning room and hall (see previous episodes) have disappeared again!

Mrs Bridges background: She is a widow from Bristol. Her husband died 15 years ago come April. She was at Southwold where she trained under a strict cook. She met Hudson 12 years ago (but see goof directly below). She has no relatives (cf. What the Footman Saw and Whither Shall I Wander?) (Note: the "widow" backstory would be contradicted in future episodes and is one of the series' biggest continuity gaffes).

Goof: This episode said that Mrs Bridges and Hudson only met 12 years ago. This is wrong by several decades. The present 165 household was set up in the early 1880s and both Hudson and Mrs Bridges came up from Southwold at that point. That's roughly 26 years for a start. And when you consider the fact that Hudson was a footman at Southwold as a lad (A House Divided) and that Mrs Bridges trained as a cook there (see above), they would have known each other a lot longer than even 26 years... (Thanks to Christine Firth for sending this one in.)

Rooms: There is yet another sink on the near left of the kitchen (cf. The Path of Duty) (11'09").

Goof: Richard: "This is a bad case of child theft." (As opposed to a not-so-bad case?) (19'45")

Goof: David Langton drops his watch (30'41").

Mr Hudson background: He was a footman at Southwold. He has known Mrs Bridges for 12 years. He has a sister in Folkestone.
